How to find a Federal Indentification number?

By

Question by Mark K: How to locate a Federal Indentification number?
I recently bought a little boat through DirectBoats.com which then sold me a boat immediately from Bass Hunter Boats. I am now making an attempt to register the boat up here in MA and the sales tax form is asking for the “Federal Identification #”. Really should the “seller details” be about Directboats.com or about BassHunter Boats? And where do I locate this Federal Identification #? I have the bill of sale/ makers certificate of origin but I do not see it on there.

any route would be helpful, thanks.

Boats don’t have a Federal Identification number, they have a hull identification number. It is located on the starboard side of the transom and is molded into the hull. The seller is Direct Boats, the manufacturer is Bass Hunter Boats

It’s no wonder home land security harrassess the good people. communication between the license agency and the boat makers stink! We bought a brand new inflatable dinghy had the id/hull # (or what ever it is called) and the bill of sale and still had a hard time getting the license.

Depending on age and type of boat the H. I. N. should be stamped in transom or on a plate attached to transom. Older boats did not have a h.i.n..
