The boat was stored for numerous many years and the steering is quite tough. It turns fine when turning appropriate but when turning left it gets quite hard at the mid point and past. It assume because it sat up with the motor facing straight that this may have some thing to do with it. Any tips on how to free it up?

Adhere to the cables to the motor and verify for kinks or excessive rust
If the cables are in cased consider some wd40 or Croil in the casing amd perform the motor center to left
tou could hace a crakd in your casing making it possible for moisture into the cables
Be content tou can repair it on dry land simply because fixing a boat in the water is a discomfort in the ass
What do you assume? Answer below!

The tilt steering tube has rust in it remove the cable and sand with a long drill bit with sand paper on it. Grease well when done.
The cable is most likley rusted. But before spending $ , try using outboard oil on the cables. It is a great cable lubricant. Star at the engine and turn the engine left and right while drissling oil on the cable. Then repeat at the consel. Inspect the caseing around the cable. Anywhere you see cracks and tears, add oil to that spot as that is where the rust is. You should have rack and pinion sterring. Make sure the teeth of the rack are free of old hard grease then add new grease. I did this on my 88 Ranger. It worked for a while but I eventually replaced the cables.
I’ve seen this quite`a few times. I’ve greased, oiled. and wire brushed…..but in the end the only sure cure is a new cable. since steering is very important safety issue I don’t take a chance and replace the cable. Good Luck!
